Introduction

Project Objectives

The United States has an influenza season where more people than usual suffer from the flu, particularly those in vulnerable populations. They needed to determine when to send additional medical staff, and how to distribute them between the 50 States for the upcoming flu season.

Datasets:

  • US Census data set
  • Influenza deaths from the CDC between 2009-2017

Problem Statement

Through vigorous data insights, it was proven that flu-related deaths among 65+ population is higher than among other age groups, they are indeed vulnerable

Hypothesis for the Project:

The susceptibility to influenza-related death is expected to be higher among individuals aged 65 and above or below 5 years old. Data preparation involved filtering relevant data, conducting thorough data cleaning, merging separate datasets, and generating a descriptive analysis of the data.

Conclusion and Recommendation

Influenza Mortality related cases are highest among Vulnerable Groups in all states (65 years and older, children under 5 years old). States with the highest need for additional medical staff are states with the highest population of people from Vulnerable groups and at the same time with the highest count of influenza caused deaths.

Majority of staff should be sent to states with the highest mortality rate.
